Kate Blackburn

Kate Blackburn

Actor, Singer, Dancer

Originally from St. Albert, Alberta, Kate grew up participating in competitive dance, voice training, and piano lessons. She is trained in R.A.D. ballet, jazz, tap, and hip-hop, as well as classical, pop, and Musical Theatre vocal styles. It wasn’t until high school that her passions came together and she developed a love for performing in live theatre.

Kate moved to Vancouver after high school and took a year of general studies at the University of British Columbia before auditioning, being accepted into and completing Capilano University’s three year Musical Theatre Program.

While still attending University, Kate landed her first professional theatre role in Chemainus Theatre’s ‘Singin’ in the Rain’. Since graduating, Kate has been pursuing her professional career, and was cast in her first lead role as Polly Baker in Gateway Theatre’s ‘Crazy For You’. She made her debut in Eastern Canada as Kathy Seldon in Capitol Theatre’s ‘Singin’ in the Rain’, and was recently seen as Hannah in the Toronto Fringe’s hit ‘Life After’ written by Britta Johnson.

Kate has most recently played at the Globe Theatre in Regina, to play one of her dream roles- Fiona in 'Shrek The Musical'.

Coming up, Kate heads to the National Arts Centre to revisit a role she originated last year in the brand new, all-Canadian musical 'The Hockey Sweater'. The show played to much success in Montreal at the Segal Centre, and Kate is excited to be bringing it to audiences in the nation's capital city. Directed and choreographed by Donna Feore, Kate can't wait to revisit the role of Mlle Therrien, and this classic Canadian story.

Kate is a passionate actor, vocalist, and dancer who is eager to continue pursuing her career and furthering her skills as a triple threat performer.
